You will prepare, administer, and measure radioactive isotopes in therapeutic and diagnostic studies by using a variety of radioisotope equipment. You will prepare stock solutions of radioactive materials and calculate doses to be administered by radiologists, and subject patients to radiation. You may also execute blood volume, redcell survival, and fat absorption studies following standard laboratory techniques.
You will conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests to assist scientists in making qualitative and quantitative analyses of solids, liquids, and gaseous materials for purposess such as research and development of new products or processes, quality control, maintenance or environmental standards, and other work involving experimental, theoretial, or practical application of chemistry and related sciences.
You will test and analyze geological samples, crude oil, or petroeum products to detect presence of petroleum, gas, or mineral deposits indicating potential for exploration and production, or to determine physical and chemical properties to ensure that products meet quality standards.
You will teach courses in the physical sciences other than chemistry and physics.
You will apply the knowledge of engineering, biology, and biomechanical principles to the design, development, and evaluation of biological and health systems and products, such as artificial organs, prostheses, instrumentation, medical information systems, and health management and care delivery systems.
You will investigate the growth, structure, development,a nd other characteristics of microscopic organisms, such as bacteria, algae, or fungi. This includes medical microbiologists who study the relationship between organisms and disease or the effects of antibiotics on microorganisms.
You will review, evaluate, and analyze work environments and design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors. You may conduct inspections and enfore adhereence to laws and regulation governing the health and safety of individuals.
You will set up, operate, or tend machines to mix or blend materials, such as chemicals, tobacco, liquids, color pigments or explosive ingredients.
You will perform work involved in developing and processing photographic images from film or digital media. You may perform precision tasks such as editing photographic negatives and prints.
You will set up, operate, or tend continuous flow or vat-type equipment; filter presses; shaker screens; cetrifuges; condenser tubes; precipitating, fermenting, or evaportating tanks; scrubbing towers; or batch stills. These machines extract, sort, or separate liquids, gases, or solids from other materials to recover a refined product.
